Notice in the YEP Hetherington has put a positive spin on being out of the cup " we are 2nd with 5 games to go, blah, blah & can still top the table" does that pay more than the CC now?
Saints are top, huddersfield third, wigan hammered leeds & all are still in it.
Can't knock the guy for building a good, be it thin squad, youth devolopment, new stand, club on a sound footing etc.
But come season ticket time he will be leaving a place in the squad open for that potential big signing with the money thats left only to confirm that coady or someone has trained well so will get the number 3 shirt that we were led to belive was mark gasniers.
Other teams kick on.
If Leeds don't reach or loose the GF wait for 'we didn't want to play in the WCC anyway as last year it affected our cup run', or if leeds do win it why not just play the academy in the cup and concentrate on the 80 or 90 quid for topping the table.

Yeah, I'd much prefer it if he just came on the telly when we were knocked out of the cup and bawled his eyes out, stomped his feet and screamed "Its not fair" at the camera before storming off.

Or do you only support the team when they win something ?

I was going to post the link yesterday as it made me laugh. He's correct though and it's to be expected as he's hardly going to be negative.

All i can say is it's a good job we did get knocked out of the cup otherwise i fear we'd be lower than 2nd place. As we got knocked out of the cup so early the minimum i expected was to finish top. Let's hope we do. (would be happy for 2nd again though if it meant we we're champs again )

He has also set himself up for a fall.

Beacause if we fail to win it now, and one of Saints, Huddersfield, Wigan, or Warrington, do win it, it does not say a lot for our team.

Indeed he has. In some ways it adds a bit of pressure on our performances as we're expecting to ''see the benefits of being knocked out of the cup''

I take it you're more the "wallow in self pity" type than the "look for what positives you can take from a less-than-ideal situation" type then?

What do you mean by "set himself up for a fall".

If Leeds don't win the GF it will mean nothing other than someone else has played better than us at some stage and will have no impact on Hetherington's job or the way he approaches it.

I am not saying it does have any impact on his job, it's not exactly that serious what he said.

But he has twice now built up been out of the cup gives the team an advantage over others in the cup. Yesterday he has gone into even greater detail and pointed out how Saints and Huddersfield will be playing an extra "semi" over Leeds, and whoever wins will be playing two.

From his comments should we not win it, he is clearly pointing out that we are not as good as those teams. Therefore putting pressure on Leeds to finish the business.

Fair enough but he should be putting the pressure on us to win it and he's right, we DO have an advantage.

We have 2 rest weekends in August, just before the playoffs start, we play Warrington (at home) the week before their semi final and we play Saints (at home) the Friday after the cup final.

There can really be no excuses for McLennan.
