He was an excellent player, but the top 3 all-time? No way, Gregory, John Holmes, Harris (at his peak), I'd rate Long higher than him too. I could include the likes of Murphy, Millward, Hardisty etc but most on here won't have seen them.

Only saw the back end of Gregory's career, and can't comment on Holmes, but I'd say Martyn was more talented than Long and a better 6 than Harris. He suffered a little with inconsistency but when he was on his game he was just sublime.

Not sure about Harris. At his peak, he was an absolutely terriffic player.

There's no doubt Harris was a cracking player, but I never thought he was that good a 6. A tremendous runner though.

| The best thing about Tommy was his ability to raise his game to pie-shafting levels regularly. No-one stuck it to the Wiganers like Tommy did. Indeed, often did it without really trying to: The "knock-on Tommy" incident must go down as one of the funniest in RL history. Pies are still bitter over that today.

His performance in the 2002 Cup final will live long in my memory.
Julian O'Neil was laughing at him, that must tell you a lot.
Tippling Tommy was never fit to be mentioned in the same breath as Edwards.
As I said before the rep coaches didn't rate him, and his own coach didn't rate him, but never mind the one eyed red vee specced fans loved him.

you are defining his career based on 1 game when the whole team was awful.
anyway, I prefer to remember Tommy as the last person to score at Pie Park.

| I used to love it when Tommy made a complete hash of something or make a glaring error in the first quarter of the game. You knew then, without fail, that he would do something spectacular and of probably game breaking proportions, before the match was finished. It was almost as if he had to make a mistake in order that he could make up for it with something sublime.
Tommy was all class and I feel priveledged to have been there on the many occasions where he wove his magic.
As to his partnership with Long, at times it was poetry in motion and almost as if they had a telepathic link or were using the same brain. They were that good together. I'd say that it's certainly the best I've seen in the red vee and you could argue that it was as good as, if not better, then the Edwards/Gregory partnership which the Pies had during their glory-buying years.
