Ganson Hangs Up His Whistle After eighteen years at the pinnacle of his trade, Steve Ganson has announced his immediate retirement from refereeing to step into the role of 'Match Officials Coach and Technical Director', vacated by Stuart Cummings departure earlier in the season.
Many supporters will breath a sigh of relief as the St. Helens based official takes up a managerial position and vanishes from our pitches and screens, but he will undoubtedly leave a void within the refereeing fraternity which will be difficult to fill.

Let's give credit to the guy who has been one of our best (if not THE best) referee for many years. We criticise referees when they don't give the decisions we want but there have been many times when I've been at a game, moaned at the referee and then watched the recording later on TV to find out he was spot on. Steve has been a great referee and his move to fill the vacant slot left by Stuart Cummins can only be good for the game. I always felt sorry for Steve during the days when Saints won everything because, at that time, he wasn't allowed to referee them in the finals. Best of luck for the future Steve.
