Any News on RL in Russia? How is the game going? Which Russian teams will enter the Challenge Cup this year?

The worst thing those clubs ever did was switch codes. They go no support at all.

Last I heard, Russian teams were gathering more attendances than half of Super League. Was a fair few years ago, mind.

I was in Russia with my school team in July. Things are going well with the senior comp building and the juniors doing likewise.

The teams are mostly full time are are not spending on silly overseas signings. The junior stuff is going very well too.

The problem in Russia is its all very political but all in all things are looking good from what I saw of the RRL in the summer

You have to be careful with supposed press released or news about the Russian game. Most of the time its written by overly excited teenagers in Sydney.


I used to talk to a bloke that worked with the RRL, an actual Russian (Not an Aussie, not a Russian born Aussie, a real life Russian!) and they have some big problems there.


If the game keep going there is will be because of luck rather than good management.

The re-named European Cup showcases six nations who either participated in the 2008 World Cup or took part in the qualifiers for it, some of the profits of which will help stage the tournament.

Group One will feature Lebanon, Russia and Scotland while Ireland, Serbia and Wales will compete in Group Two


Round 1
Saturday 17/10/09 - Russia V Scotland (Moscow)
- Ireland V Serbia (Limerick)

Round 2
Saturday 24/10/09 - Lebanon V Russia (Tripoli)
- Serbia V Wales (Belgrade)

Round 3
Saturday 31/10/09 - Scotland V Lebanon (Glasgow)
Sunday 01/11/09 - Wales V Ireland (Bridgend)

Not a bad shout but It would cost some cash to send planes over there.
Don't know why they didn't stick Serbia in with the other two. It would be Lebannon winning that group anyway.
I wonder if the respective teams will be able to keep all their players from the WC and qualifiers. Be interesting to see.

Agreed LF, I prefer to get out and watch these sides in the CC, rather than like you say, taking the word of exitible internet MB users.
its the only way you can see for yourself how the game is progressing (or not)in certain countrys.

Russia are poor, the national side is poor and Loko were laugable at the weekned, however I think with outside coaching from even the most mediocre English/Aussie coach and a few experienced players in the Loko side they could improve out of sight

plenty of raw talent there then? from what ive heard serbia could be a country to watch given the right coaching.
