| anytime an american sees State Of Origin for the first time they freak out and say where has this sport been all my life?
they cant believe the physicality of it, with the players not wearing pads or helmets, or the skills shown.
if you want RL to grow all you have to do is use these games to promote the sport.
its little wonder the event gets 10 million TV viewers a year, and crowds of 150,000 - 200,000 depending on which grounds are used

www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/s ... 8403.shtml Q: Can rugby be popular in America?
What you've seen in America is that there is room in this very, very big market for niche sports to have a following, for people to develop a fan base around niche sports. Jacksonville has its own rugby team, they played in the American league final, and Jacksonville can have a little place in the world of rugby. Sports is really changing, the internationalization of sports. The NFL has played a game in London, and on Jan. 26 - Australia Day - we're going to bring the best rugby team from England against the team that wants to be the best in Australia.

The former international centre and New York City public-works big shot said Matt Cooper had a step "like Fred Astaire", wondered at the strength of prop "Peteero Civonisensia", and hyped up the crowd about "Will Mason", "Shane Timmons" and "The Truck" O'Meley.
Those who were there seemed to love it - despite the rain in the final quarter - and, while it looked like a 5000 crowd, NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley said the figure was more like 8000.
"The amount of publicity we got for the game over the past week ... was really satisfying given the profile of the game in this country," said Annesley, who said before the match it could have attracted 20,000.

| fair dinkum, you chappies are dreamers.
you need to develop a sport from the grass roots before it can succeed... that means getting the schools to play and developing a fan base.
you cant just plonk a pro sport team into alien territory and expect it to work.
stop dreaming about world domination you little napoleons and concentrate on saving the existing league clubs about to go broke.
