Tigers praise two ref revolution , AFTER its first day on the job at Redfern Oval, the new two-referees system is already being applauded by rugby league's stars.
John Morris, who adopted the five-eighth role with aplomb during Sunday's trial win over South Sydney, was impressed with the dual control of Tony Archer and Ben Cummins.
"I found it really positive," he said.
"They came out to training a couple of weeks ago and I had my doubts about the whole thing.
"But yesterday's game was really good and I didn't really notice the second ref at all, except when they changed over. One minute you're looking up and you see Tony Archer . . . the next it's Ben Cummins, and it's a bit weird. I thought they controlled the 10 really consistently. I thought it was closer to 10 metres than in past years when they had you back 13 (metres).

| People back home may be surprised to hear that the NRL is expecting to have a faster Play the Ball now with two refs. One of the things meant to happen with 2 refs is a tidying up in the rucks.
We'll see.

| Watching the Broncos v NQC game it was as if the game had been turned back 4 years - very impressive - the speed of that game was 50% faster than has been the norm for the last 2/3 years. Some superb skill on show - Harmichael's kick through for Winterstein and Thurston's banana for Bowen - quality. I bet Manly wish they had a couple of young wingers like Brisbane's the other night - Manly's winger were shocking.
The two refs really does appear to work also a great way of younger officials getting experience without dropping them in at the deep end.
Difficult to gauge much for the Bulldogs v Manly game - other than the players needed at aqua lung. Manly looked well out of sorts, Whatmough was virtually non existent as was Stewart, Kite obviously hadn't realised grapple tackles were outlawed and the less about the two wingers the better. As for Canterbury, Goodwin and Idris were outstanding and big applause to El Magic - some achievement - what is it with Canterbury and goal kickers?
