Brian McDermott is right on the money. The game is being held back by the lesser teams. It should be the more successful clubs with strong fan bases, such as St Helens, Wigan, Leeds, Warrington, Hull FC, and Catalans, who determine the direction and rules of Super League.

If Toronto Wolfpack can get a good half back and a couple of good prop forwards they will not only make the playoffs but they may also make it to the Grand Final. They will be a major influence on the direction in which Super League goes. If Toulouse can get promoted to Super League in 2021, and New York and Ottawa two or three years after that, then we will have a completely different Super League -- one that the sporting world and media pays attention to.

Haha haha

‘That’s a cracker’ to quote the late Frank Carson.

Catalans can’t even command a new TV deal in their own country when they are unique being the only Superleague team in France.

The French team is far worse than GB if that’s possible and that was originally the whole purpose of a French team in Superleague.

All these players contacting Sonny Bill wanting a couple of million quid a year and a share of the club so keen to play for the Wolfpack and expand the game in Canada oh yeah !! It’s money boy pure and simple and Argyle ain’t gonna be there forever.

So six English teams, six oversea teams means no away support at half the games and Sky are going to pay £25 million a season for this ? Get real the TV cover from Canada is poor, from France probably non existent and this grows the game in what way ??

RU has a flourishing international game, premiership and genuine European Cup that boat has already sailed for Rugby League whilst the French 14 might have a big say in French Ru, the French International team in International RU to say 7/8,000 people in Southern France makes them essential to the future of RL is a joke.

At least Toronto aren’t mercenary enough to take two and a half million quid from a UK TV deal.....

Mcdermott has come out in the press to say what I have been saying for years.

We are being held back by teams who offer nothing to the big picture

As far as I know we are a Professional game because SKY want to pay us a big TV contract to show English Superleague to English fans. English fans buy the subscriptions to watch English clubs. I think many people in places like Wakefield, Salford, Huddersfield, Widnes, Bradford, Castleford and Leigh buy SKY subscriptions even though their clubs never win anything? I think they like their clubs playing at top professional level like many fans of soccer clubs in the premier league who who will probably never win a cup.

If these clubs weren't in Superleague or fighting to get back into Superleague then wouldn't SKY subscriptions drop to the point where SKY may not pay us at all?? How many SKY dishes do they sell in Perpignan or Toronto? Do TV companies want to pay for RL in France or Canada? I thought the French TV company ended the contract How many subscriptions do SKY get from abroad?

Isn't it the overseas clubs that add nothing to the TV money and therefore the professional game? Correct me if I am wrong but you seem to have things upside down!

Yes it sounds really good mate, but will we get a French TV contract with just two clubs from France? Will we get a Canadian TV contract with just two clubs from Canada? Will we get a American TV contract with only club New York, and will we still get a SKY TV contract if Superleague only has seven English clubs?

I don't see how it will work mate?

Was it Saints who signed SBW or did we miss that.
You'll be telling us next that we're missing out on a huge TV deal from both France and N.America.

Do you think that ANYONE in say, New York or Toronto knows where St Helens is
I would think that your average man on the street in the south of England doesn't know.

The only major cities that are playing RL in SL this country are Leeds and Hull, so, if you want to go for "big names" in "big cities" the rest will have to go.

They do say, be careful what you wish for :SUBMISSION:

That's true about Leeds and Hull in RL terms, but you won't find many in North America who know where Hull is and it will be a minority with Leeds too. They will automatically assume London is the biggest team and probably wonder why there isn't one called Liverpool or Manchester given that they're famous "sports" names. Wigan and St Helens are huge names in rugby league, but good luck explaining that in Toronto!
