Opening Game. : Thu Feb 01, 2024 9:15 am
Have we become complacent? His time last year there was a massive buzz around the town for the opening game, the club had announced Scouting for Girls before Christmas!!, there were sponsored adverts all over social media and the club were massively pushing the game. Also the Fuel Girls had been announced. This led to one of the best games I’ve ever attended.

This year there is nothing, the game is a couple of weeks away and still no news on the opening game, no bands, no nothing.

Are we just expecting a poor turnout because it’s Huddersfield?

It is a bit crazy isn't it , the club is aiming for multiple sell outs this year including this one and yet nothing in regards to tickets on sale , is this a down side to the red memberships as they will have first option on any tickets after the full memberships are accounted for ?

Think they are hoping that more will go for memberships before they put open sale out, but you’d think by next week they’d start ramping the marketing up a bit - be interesting to see if they go for the pre match stuff again, not for me tbh but seems to have been well received and got people in early which can only be good for the kiosk sales (I.e. catering company pay more for the contract if that’s how it works)

In the newsletter sent out, which I received at close to 9pm last night, it seems that the poor health/death of Brian Bowman factored into the delay in pushing the opening match.

First game was in 1967, and have been hooked since day 1. Now live in Vancouver, Canada but follow our team any way I can.

Just read the same myself. Another example of Derek doing the right thing, and willing to take criticism on the chin while he does, knowing it will come, but knowing it is worth it.
I’m not saying that asking the question here and elsewhere was wrong by the way, because I had wondered the same thing.

It's good to see some RL action after so many months. It is difficult to draw any conclusions other than the First XIII are nailed-on starters. My only issue is Jack Hughes. Am I missing something or does he have some interesting photos of Lammy Snr? Opinions please because I don't see why he is always played when available.

What’s Hughes done wrong, based on last season after injuries was solid and consistent, and a talker, leader and organiser so all part of getting the structure on the field right. For what it’s worth can see Halton maybe replacing him in the starting 13 - but Hughes has size and strength to help the grunt so a deffo for the 17 for me

Leigh Pack
8. Tom Amone (Dream Team 23)
9. Edwin Ipape (Dream Team 23)
10. Robbie Mulhern (Dream Team 23 nominee)
11. Kai O'Donnell (Asked if interested in joining England squad)
12. Jack Hughes ???
13. John Asiata (Dream Team 23)

This pack is phenomenal, but Jack Hughes seems to be an anomaly. I am not privy to his stats and can only assume he is a tackling machine because offensively he has none of the impact of the other 12 members of the team. Just asking is he the 2nd best second rower at the club.

Hey SS, I think herein lies the problem. This pack is the best in Super League. As such Hughes seems out of place because everyone else is top drawer. For what its worth I agree. At the end of the season I posted on here that i felt a right edge forward was a priority for us. I hope Halton stays injury free and he might just turn into that. He has the dynamism, size and power to make that spot his own. My only concern is that the patterns of play Lam likes to play with requires spacial awareness, timing and intelligence to pull them off successfully. I am not sure that either Hughes or Halton have that profile. If not we will be reliant on that left edge again for all our threat. An alternative would benefit us immensly.

North Stand sold out , I know we had quite a few lock outs last year but can’t remember many sold out than a week before game day
Healthy crowd for Hull derby , Wigan WCC sold out - the game seems to be in a very healthy place at the minute
