I've been to two games this season, I stupidly decided against a season ticket due to travel plans (wish the £65 was still around). Each game I've brought with me 4-5 friends who were newbies. Now due to lack of commitment and waiting for weather on their behalf we've been walk-ups early in the afternoon and have scored ordinary seats each game.
Now while you can say this is my fault for buying on the day, the guys that come with me (or other new fans) dont know the reasons behind opening one stand and just see spare seats all around the stadium from their front row view.
If the club is going to open up the south/north stands regardless, wouldnt it be easier to sell GA tickets to away fans in one of these stands? Giving more room for home fans to bring friends and get a better view.
Currently we are severly restricting the clubs room for growth on ticket sales, and leaving a bad taste in the mouth of new fans and away fans. The cost of moving all away fans into a southern/northern stand would be minimal (on current costs), while potentially reaping extra revenue from future ticket sales.
This Saturday I have only 1 friend returning from the 9 that have come with me this season, I might be able to coax 1 or 2 new comers. The others while enjoyed the atmosphere pre and post game, were'nt impressed with their seats. Yes we could buy earlier, but there are often factors that prevent securing exact numbers until game day.
At the moment, the club is shooting itself in the foot. I beleive I can speak with some experience as the ticketing manager of a major sport from back in Aus.
