Keep Sheffield Eagles in SHEFFIELD : Tue Sep 17, 2013 3:53 pm
Even if you do not support the Sheffield Eagles, Please take a few minutes of your time and sign this petition. I'm hoping for as many signatures I can get to keep Sheffield Eagles in Sheffield or even in existence! You will have to register to sign, please follow the link. We may not be in our thousands, but we are no less passionate about Rugby League

https://sheffield.moderngov.co.uk/mgEPe ... spx?id=115

Thanks so much in advance if you took the time to sign.

We the undersigned would like to express our concern for the future of our club SHEFFIELD Eagles. It’s taken 13 years for Mark Aston and his team to recover from being disbanded to where we are today the current CHAMPIONS of the Championship League. He’s worked tirelessly within the community to encourage young people to be involved in the game, some of which have already gone on to play in our first team. Sheffield prides itself on being a City of Sports and now Sheffield Eagles are asking the council to ensure their future is in Sheffield and not in doubt. We would like the council to reassure us that this work has not been in vain and to keep Sheffield Eagles in SHEFFIELD. We are probably the most successful team that Sheffield has had in recent years.
We want the council to help the Sheffield Eagles remain in Sheffield by helping with fundings, like they have offered to help the athletics relocate now the Don Valley Stadium is to be demolished.

I understand why Sheffield fans want to stay in Sheffield but not sure what it's got to do with the local government.

The only reason I see is, local government are supporting athletics in the transition period with their temporary move until the new stadium is agreed and built. My only concern is that The Sheffield Eagles returning to their original first home is that is needs a lot of money spending on it and only for a temporary period.

The issue is that a lot of funding has gone into the new athletics stadium at Woodbourn Road. The Council have said that this is because of the amateurs that use it. However the Eagles are far from being a professional club, and run junior and amateur teams that would put many Super League teams to shame. The club just wants some help in finding a home which looks like it could be Owlerton, how temporary that will be Im not too sure.

How many individuals/children would be affected by the loss of the Eagles from Sheffield? I bet it's not very many, certainly not enough to justify the council building them a £multi-million stadium.

yes there was lots of talk of it being a long term partnership too, obviously fallen through now the Blades have a big money owner.

At no point have the Eagles asked to be moved into a new stadium funded by the Council, indeed they had a ground lined up at Sheffield Hallam Uni until the uni pulled the plug on the deal. All they want is the Council to help them get into Owlerton before the start of next season. The Bramall Lane link up effectively ended when the RFL wouldnt give the ground a World Cup game, as they said the stadium was too big!

All they want is money from the council to upgrade the stadium. With 1000 fans and a very small amateur scene I'm not sure what's in it for the council.
