Marketing news... : Sat Oct 12, 2013 5:19 pm
Such is the depressing feeling we all seem to have as LBRL fans I am surprised nobody has picked up the little nugget in the The Sun...

STRANGER THAN FICTION?

...The big buzz at LONDON BRONCOS this week is about retired dual rugby code ace Gareth Thomas joining them in some capacity.

The majority reckon he will be given a marketing post....

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sp ... gland.html

So it would seem we are not dead, or even on suicide watch. Also of note, is the new minimum standard for a ground is pretty much the specification of the Hive. See the policy document!

May be, just may be no news is good news. Just a bl**dy long wait to find out.

Can't read the link as you need a Sun subscription and who has one of them?

However what would Gareth Thomas know about marketing?

Surely Director of Rugby would make more sense.

There isn't a long term plan.
See the next season out then drift off into obscurity.
The above named would reinforce that.

I can't read the link either but surely this is a positive thing in the grand scheme of club survival and perhaps the start of a deluge of positive news with regard next season then into the future.

Actually it may be a very shrewd move to vie for the pink pound from Londons' gay community. I kid you not these people have overwhelming wealth and surplus income to be potential owners or sponsors alike.
Look at Stade Francais, Max Guazzini their chairman took them to great heights in European Rugby with good marketing, flamboyant shirt designs, that they cleverly made a limited number of replicas to make them highly collectible. I know his own bubble burst back in 2011, but it laid the foundation for a successful club and ever growing fan base.
You have to try and start somewhere.

I'm not sure that "flamboyant shirt designs" were a bid for gay support or that SF have much gay following. Although the pink pound is pretty strong, I'm not sure that appointing a token gay bloke in marketing is going to make much difference. He may be very high profile but he's a rugby player not a marketer.

That wasn't the point i was making, Guazzini thought outside the box, and gave Stade an identity which the parisians have bought into, he just used his sexuality to influence it.
Gareth Thomas was a good ambassador for Welsh rugby and a reasonable orator, so i would think he could do a job with marketing RL in the capital, drawing on his status and profile.

He's not a bad person to be able to bring out for the odd function but hardly someone you'd want to appoint to a full-time salaried position.

You've not seen much Broncos stuff recently then? There's only Gus left who works there and he's not really in the business of Shrewd!

Love the optimism though. Wish I shared it, but fair play to you.
