Wembley....... : Sat Aug 12, 2023 2:55 pm
Has a lot of empty seats despite the best efforts of BT & Bongser. Not a good look really.

Surprised to hear that DC. Club Wembley was full-80% and the HKR side looked busy except in the top tier which I still felt was better than I’d seen before. The far left I think was Halifax allocation and they’d dint turn up in numbers for CC. Leigh side slightly less but apart from a couple of gaps second tier right I thought it was full. Basically best attendance I’d seen for several years. Good atmosphere as well and fans although in drink behaved well. @credit to the game.

Fair enough BT, just from TV coverage seemed to be a fair few gaps in amongst the fans & the top tier. We won't have long to wait for the official attendance I'm sure.

In fairness DC the attendance figure looks a bit average but all I can say is they moved the attendees around ina. Way which objectively made more sense. club Wembley there weren’t an6 obvious gaps. Behind the sticks I thought much better than in previous years,,special mention to HKR I thought they travelled in volume. What I will say is there seemed less neutrals. Quite a few HullFC , wire and Leeds but no Saints Wigan even teams likeYork and Skolars. Didn’t even see Broncos 1st team which I usually do.
I thought it worked. Not embarrassing, really decent atmosphere.

Poor for the final that "everyone wanted" given it featured teams that we don't get to see 20 times a season on SKY.
Thought it was an error strewn game and the BBC coverage wasn't much better.
The little Welsh wizard needs to be binned off as he's just a collection of soundbites and clichés.
Thougroughly enjoyed the ladies game and let's hope and pray that the success of the "lioness" down in Straya can be tapped into for our final v Cardiff on the 27th....although I somewhat doubt it will.

My wife and I had a day out in Kent on Saturday. We both commented how light the traffic was in Kent and Essex. I suspect a lot of people are away on holiday, which would impact attendance at Wembley? I think magic weekend and away trips to Perpignan are more of a draw for northern RL fans than the cc final these days?

So no one here heard Dave Woods say that there was 20k fans stuck on the motorway due to an over turned vehicle?

Agree about J D, they need to get rid asap.

That's a lot of Extinction Rebellion supporters for 1 place!!

Not sure how Woods would know as counting on his fingers gives him enough problems & if they had sold 78k tickets, the RFL would have been crowing.

Absolutely, the RFL would've been ramming that crowd number down everyone's throats if it was anywhere near that amount of tickets sold.

No doubt there were a lot of supporters for both teams that didn't make it, but I find the 20000 number highly spurious

I did hear that. I also heard David Lanny making some claims on TV a while back. I didn’t believe that either.
It was a decent crowd, especially where it counted: behind the sticks and central in front of the cameras. A great atmosphere and it’s unrealistic to expect a sell out. Back in the day I went with my father to the FA Trophy. Circa 20k crowd- no one cared. If RL can aim for 70k gates they will be doing well. As is, a great day out at a good price. Difficult to see where that extra 20k would have fitted in. Although more than expected rocked over with 5 minutes to go, I think, in the absence of any proof, we can dismiss Woods’ claim and get back to more important things.
