No that was mid-season. It was just a guess!

Sorry to nitpick but Joe Mellor has had SL experience.
He played for Quins in SL whilst on loan including their win over Saints at Widnes.
From what I was told by a Widnes fan he had a blinder!
I'd have no issue with him starting at 6, Finch at 7 and TL starting at 9.
We may lose Finch and Tommy at the end of 2012 so we had better bring through our younger players now as we'll need them by 2012 and 2013.
We are not going to buy in new numbers 6, 7 & 9 by next season so let's give first team experience to these outstanding youngers we have.

Those thinking Wigan will be bringing in any new halves or hookers are going to desperately disappointed IMO. What worried me was Wane liking the idea of Finch and Tommy at 6 and 7, with McIlorum and Logan sharing the hooking role. Not a good move if that's what he decides to go with.

I'm with Father Ted on this one. We'd better start blooding the likes of Mellor and Powell, because there's not that unreasonable of a chance that Finch and Tommy could depart Wigan after 2012. Then without properly preparing for that scenario, we really would be up sh*t creek without a paddle.

I'm of the opinion that we'll see two more signing in Dudson and Flower, and that'll be that. Even if Joel departs I don't think we'll see a replacement brought in for this year.

That was July iirc, think that's why people have been even more impatient this year tbh.

Anyway, IMO Tommy is a far better 7 than 9, he gets more room to do what he does best and take the line on. Micky Mac doesn't take us round the park, he's not a classy 9 like Riddell was, id like us to sign a proper hooker, but we wont.

I am of the opinion now that given the lack of quality on the market Mellor needs to be given a chance. I think Wane will be of that opinion as well.

He is no longer a kid and needs to step up to the mark. It is a year earlier than I would have liked but the market has twisted our arm.

This means that we go into next year with a much more settled backbone of our team, with 9 (both of them),13,7 and 1 being settled and a continuation from 2011.


I would have loved to see us bring in a top class 7 or 9 with Mellor being gradually introduced next year, with a view to replace Finch in 2013, but I do not think there is any possibility of that happening given the players available.

Right centre is now the final piece of the jigsaw and again I would not be shocked to see us use current squad members to fill that void that has in truth never really been filled since the departure of Gleeson.

Next year I fully expect us to have one of the biggest most aggressive packs in the history of the League with pace and agility out wide. Very much up Wane's street in my opinion.

I think we can last without signing a halfback or hooker, we have Leuluai, Finch, Sam, O'Loughlin, McIlorum Mellor, Logan and Powell who can cover those positions (with Richards/Roberts covering fullback if Sam has to move and Farrell/Tuson covering Lockers if he has to move)

A centre is what we should be throwing as much money as needed at IMO. Not just for this season but for long term aswell because at the moment we dont look like we have anyone in the under20s who can cover. Having class players like Charnley and Pat on the wings will count for nothing if we have players like Goulding and Marsh in the centres, who dont know how to get the best out of their wingers.

last season was quite simple for me..Put Monaghan,Roby or Henderson in our side we would have won the double.
