He mentioned it around the time of his appointment. I can't remember in what context, whether it was in regards to Deacon leaving or his plans for future recruitment. But he most certainly mentioned it. It was brought up by a few others on here, perhaps they'll be able to fill in the details that I've missed.

A lot of people that watch the Under 20s and a few Widnes fans have stated that L Tomkins is nowhere near ready to be in a Super League starting 17, if we have him and Micky Mac rotating hookers I think we are in trouble. Tommy 7 , Finch 6 and a new 9 interchanging with McIllorum.

Leuluai needs to stay at #9. Powell or Mellor need to be given a shot at #7.

I think with the lack of talent available we should look at giving Tommy the 9 shirt as our starting hooker and starting with Mellor in the halves to partner Finch. Dont waste money in settling for somone who may not do any better than one of the youngsters. You get experience by playing and Mellor needs to be thrown in. Tommy could rotate with him if hes struggling when Mcilorum comes on or assist in giving direction. If Saints can make two youngsters gel in their half back partnerships then im sure we can get Mellor gelling playing with someone like Finch who has all the experience in the world. The big focus has to be a right centre. We cant fumble through the season without a natural centre.

We definitely need to try and recruit a centre if possible. Although i'm not sure were from, I guess we need to hope IL can pull a rabbit out from Aus. Dont think it needs to be a world beater just a natural centre which would IMO eradicate any concerns about Charnley's defense. Otherwise, the only other option would be a cheeky bid for someone like Arundel or Lawrence.

Next year I'd go with

6. Finch
7. Tommy
9.McLlorum
Int. Mellor/Powell/ Russell. (Use all throughout the year.)

McLlorum adds alot of bite and intensity early game especially in Defence which I like, Plus Tommy's defense outwide helps the right hand side. After 15-20mins get Tommy into hooker and bring one of the yound lads on. Eases them into the first team gently, if one really impresses they'll push themselves into the starting 13 but thats how i'd go to start with. Also Tommy needs to play all the 80 he's to good to be on the bench and never struggles to play the full game.

Mentioned to me that Wigan are interested in Ben Fisher.
Always thought he was a good player but has been released by HKR.
If true I'd like to know the reason why when we have plenty 9s at the club, unless we are going to lose an experienced one. Fisher's certainly experienced.
Don't know if there's any truth in this or not, just a rumour!
