Foster wouldn't be in my first choice Saints 17, I'd be amazed if Wigan went for him.

I'd imagine you have better players in your reserves.

I'd be very excited if we signed Wheeler. He's obviously had his injury problems but he's also got huge talent.

As for Foster it's a no thanks from me.

By the sounds of it though the 3rd player is likely to be another Crusader which is underwhelming.

I wish we would break the bank and get Ryan Hall on the wing outside Josh Charnley. What a great powerful speedy partnership that would be.

Then we'll have Jack Reed next season to replace Carmont please when he does actually retire.

It's a tough call for Royce with foster as he's worth 8 points a year with his kicking. His goal kicking won us many games last year but he's prob worse player with the ball than all our other wingers.

I think he is pretty average tbh in terms of having "x factor" and being able to do something special and I certainly wouldnt take him at Wigan over Charnley or Richards (maybe if Charnley was at centre but that would be an inexperienced partnership), but he is a very good finisher and I would say better than Makinson from what I've seen of the 2, plus he's one of the top 3 goalkickers in the league. Have Saints named their squad numbers yet, I'd guess he has the 2/5 jersey?

Mind boggling isn't it you would think IL has some sort of soft spot for ex Crusaders. I'm just hoping we are in for Wheeler AND this young welsh winger.

Makinson every time. Looks a quality player that lad.

Foster is enormously overrated. I'm really surprised some of you would want to sign him as truthfully I don't think he'll be in our 17 next season.

He's an excellent goalkicker to say the least, but has got lead boots (nowhere near quick enough to be a top level winger) and couldn't break through a wet paper bag.

A lot of the younger Saints fans love him because of his hair and his boots and all that kind of stuff but he isn't even half the player Tommy Makinson is. That kid is the real deal.

but, there's a danger now of people under estimating him.

While the above all has substance, he's a good % winger, which is what coaches want. A few mistakes began to creep into his game towards the end of the season, but on the whole he's very safe and has a knack of taking diffcult balls out of the air. His hands are good and if he's in a situation where he should score, then he will - his finishing in heavy traffic is good.
He lacks the danger to threaten on his own and rarely gets us on the front foot when scooting at the beginning of the set. IMO the most dangerous he looks is when he's returning kicks and he has an option to one side, recreating a situation that harks back to when he was a centre.

Christ, talk about changing your tune! I had a right ding dong on the Saints board about Foster being a one trick pony at the start of this season. With most Saints fans defending him to high heaven. It's taken some time but thankfully most of you look like you've seen the light.

If after reading that your still undecided about whether I'd like foster in the Wigan team. It's a NO!
