Russell is another freakish talent at fullback. We will at some stage need to accommodate him or lose him. Even worse Russell could move on then Sam head to union.
I think we will sign a half, and hopefully re sign Finch. But long term within the next 2 seasons I expect Russell will be our fullback, with Sam either in the halves or in the other code/Nrl.
Sad state of affairs that every time a truly exceptional talent emerges in League, it's almost a done deal that he will leave the game before he reaches his peak.
Can you imagine RL in the late 80s/early 90s without Hanley, Lydon, Edwards, Bell, Myler, Platt, Offiah, Betts, Greogry (both of them), etc, etc.
However, I live in hope. Thornley is yet another one to leave Union apparently disgruntled.
Perhaps the pattern will shift from all our best players leaving for good to all our best players leaving temporarily and then whichever RL club buys them back having to take two years out to teach them how to play rugby again. Not ideal, but better than the alternative.
