Never thought I'd see the day a Wigan coach was against something that would allow the club to sign (or retain) a top class player. This strikes me as another ill thought out press comment from Wane because he clearly hasn't realised he could use this rule to try and retain a player he had brought through such as a Burgess or a Sam T.

And if bringing his own players through the ranks is what he is interested in why on earth do we have 12 first team regulars he didn't bring through and what does that comment say to them?

Anyone know how IL voted on this? I am pretty sure last time he was in favour. Has he changed his mind?

Another sad bit of news from Aus is that Lee Mossop has been ruled out for the season due to his latest shoulder injury.

Another bit of news on the BBC page is that Catalan have signed Willie Tonga on a two year deal, a 30 year old who used to be a very good centre.

Also Cats are interested in Todd Carney but expect competition from other S/L clubs, it is said that Hull, Wire and Salford have ruled themselves out of going for Carney.

Great signing for Catalan in Tonga, still a very good centre.

If you read it Wane does not state he is against the Marquee Player rule simply that the Wigan situation and the Salford situation are poles apart in relation to where they are developmentally. We are reliant on youth where they need to bring players in.

Still why let the facts get in the way of having yet another negative post about the club

'Do you remember when we had that meeting in Orlando? We talked about how we were knocked out the previous year by Leeds. And at the end, I asked you one question. "Do you want to be a semi-final team? Or do you want to do something special?" You all said you wanted to win. But talking is easy – it needed you to believe. It needed you to work hard – harder than you had – and make sacrifices. You did all that. you worked for each other. You stuck together when it was tough. And because of your efforts, you sit here tonight as champions. I'm proud of you. Be proud of yourselves. You've done something special.'

Shaun Wane's post-Grand Final speech. 5th October 2013.

Wasn't having a go at any particular poster, but the thread seemed to have turned into a game of one-upmanship over the Salary Cap rather than a discussion of rumours and signings :thumb:

You're really fixated on these "12 players" aren't you. How many of those 12 were signed at age 21 or under? 5, Bateman, Taylor, Gelling, Dudson and Sarginson. We may not have developed them in the sense that they came through our academy but they were far from established top flight players when we brought them in. Signings like Flower, Smith, Pettybourne and Clubb have added quality and experience to the team and signings like Green and Bowen have basically been stop gap players while the likes of Williams, Powell and Hampshire develop. All your arguments are all-or-nothing, we haven't developed every player in our 30 odd man squad so it's wrong of Wane to not want a marquee signing policy, the details of which we know very little about.

The "no interest" in "marquee player" are in quotes (from a radio interview) so unless the BBC are making it up, he has no interest in the idea.

EDIT: His exact words were "I am not really bothered about a marquee player". It on the latest pre match interview on Wigan TV.

We are also pretty reliant on players brought in with 12 who regularly feature in the 1st 17 when fit.

Active rumors as far as I see -

Travis Burns between us and Saints.

Taylor out to Hull.

Burgess to NRL

Dave O may give the club some credit.

They get increasingly less likely from former to latter.
