It's the pack I hope we can sort out. We missed Lee Mossop big time last night. I dare say Gareth Hock and Stuart Fielden would have made a big difference too, but I'm not making excuses - it's all IF's and BUT's. My point is just how key the pack is to winning games. When O'carroll, Tuson, Farrell etc came on Saints began to dominate in the forwards. Lima, Hoffman, Hansen, Hoffman, Lockers, McIlorum were smashing Saints up the middle, but when we interchanged players we didn't look as strong. Imagine had we had Gaz Hock, Stuart Fielden and Lee Mossop coming on. We would have won.
Our props in Stuart Fielden, Jeff Lima, Paul Prescott, Lee Mossop look good. I would like to add another addition. I believe props win you pots and I'd like five senior props. Hock could move to prop, but it leaves us a bit short in the back row. Dom Crosby/Gil Dudson aren't senior props. However I think with Lauaki signing that will mean Gaz Hock moves to prop.
In the back row we have Harrison Hansen, Lauaki, Chris Tuson, Liam Farrell - not that strong. Joel Tomkins moving back to the pack would be a big boost. I'd love to see us sign another big strong forward - either a back row or a prop.
Forwards win you games. We have the talent in the backs and we have talent coming through in the backs. I'm not too worried. Forwards take the priority for me and if we can get that right with a couple of strong addition we'll always be challenging for honours.
