Funny one is Liam watts. I do rate him as a prop forward but he gets too many of the wrong type of red card.
Now hear me out before you weigh in on me for liking the biff..
Watts disciplinary is shocking, yet I hardly see any sort of ‘enforcer’ air about him.
I could honestly forgive seeing red quite often if he was rampaging across the park and intimidating the bejesus out of people (al la Barrie Mac)
The incidents I have seen are always from sly digs or just poor technique.
I say this but perhaps it’s just a symptom of the overly sanitised game we have now. People to afraid to properly weigh in and therefore we get this petulant type of incidents.
His ‘head butt’ attempt against Crosby (another flat track bully) was pathetic. If you are going to deck someone do it smart. If the opposition gave you in the ropes, that is the time to do something to disrupt.
Red cards are red cards but Imo some red cards are clever and useful.
If he got the red for blasting the other teams talismans or enforcer and it helped swing the balance. Then yes! I’ve a lot of respect for that type of red.
Maybe I’m daft but look at Tallis, Ian Roberts, super kel, Barrie Mac, Mozza etc. They spent a shed load of time in the dock but no one would have changed them for the world. Mainly because they frightened the opposition to death
