Sad - was never fit, which makes me wonder about the decision to sign him, especially as a marquee signing.

Really sad how it turned out - George at his best would have steamrollered SL. Hope the surgery goes well and he can get back to good health.

It’s one with real mixed feelings. A relief to have that cloud lifted from over the squad but sad for the guy. He’s clearly in a very bad way. I’m sure the club will now have a bit more cap space to play with but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve had to pay Burgess a substantial figure to ‘mutually’ part ways and I guess that could then impact on the amount of room it frees up.

It sounds like he plans to play again in 2022. I really hope things work out for him.

A real shame how this has worked out. I hope he gets the support he needs to get his hip fixed, even if this is the end of the road for his playing career. Fair play to him for playing ball with the club to come to an agreement too, I wouldn't have blamed him for seeing his contract out.

Pretty much sums up how I'm feeling about this.

Absolutely gutted that this didn't work out. Seems like forever since we've seen a world class prop at the club (Fax maybe) and GB was exactly that. I was dying to see him ripping it up in the same way Tom did.

There is relief however, that we've drawn a line under it. I spoke on another thread about this year being all about the 'here and now'. If we can get the right prop in, then it's the last piece of the jigsaw for 2021.

Really do wish GB all the best. I hope he comes back from this and gets onto the field again.

It is sad to see a player in the physical state he’s in and genuinely gutted it never worked out here for him and us. I wish him all the best in his recovery and sincerely hope he can get it sorted.

Certainly opens up some money for a prop - Luke Thompson anyone?*

*for anyone who’s head this goes over, I’m joking

Right decision for me, another twelve months of GB being on the sidelines was no good for anybody. The club had no choice really. Last season showed that the divide between us and Saints is a thinner line than it was the year prior, inches away from being Champions ourselves.

Saints have strengthed for this season, as have we in some areas. Felt that prop was one area letting us down so hopefully this will be redressed now.

That said, hope GB gets the treatment he needs and makes a good enough recovery for it not to hinder him after retirement. Glad to hear the club supported him throughout his dark moments last year.

Some rubbish comments knocking about on social media slagging him off. It’s one thing a signing coming and plying really poorly or not putting effort in.

The guys worked hard to get on the field but body couldn’t take it.

He was the best prop in the world in 2014/15.

Criticism from the club for signing him if they knew about the injury was is fair but not bashing George.

This is a great move for the club though.

Gets him off the cap, takes the white elephant out of the room, can now move forward.

Also good for George personally that he doesn’t have the pressure of trying to get back quickly etc.

Moving forward I expect the money to be saved for a mid season signing.

I’m praying Luke Thompson becomes homesick!

I seem to remember you giving me the smiley emoji and a ‘yeah right, he has to pay his mortgage blah, blah, blah’ response, a few months ago when I suggested that Burgess should do the decent thing and walk away. So here’s one for you in return..

As you say, fair play to him. He could indeed have seen his contract out but I don’t think that would have gone down too well with the fans which he realised.
