This test series has proved conclusively that the referal system simply doesn't work.
There have been so many utterly shocking decisions given using it. It is possible to tell with the naked eye which direction the ball is headed in because of the angle of the spin, yet the umpires have this ridiculous 'conclusive proof' arguement. The one just was stupid but not as bad as the one yesterday from Monty which was blatantly hitting middle of middle stump.
They have the hawk eye system, so why not just use that with all LBW decisions and the heat detector for decisions as to whether a batman knicked a ball. Currently umpring is completely subjective and so, so open to officials being bribed, simply because they can decide the outcome of most matches and get away with it.
Having said all that this series shows that there should be some control over pitches too. If the sides had batted both innings until all 40 wickets were taken, it would have probably taken 2 weeks.
