I've just been adding this season's fixtures to my calendar but, unless I've missed something, can anyone explain the reasoning behind the following:Monday, 25 April
Keighley Cougars v Workington Town 15:00
Saturday, 9 July
Keighley Cougars v Swinton Lions 15:00
Are the posted details of these fixtures correct?
On Easter Monday, when families usually 'go out for the day' why couldn't the fixture be arranged for the evening? OK, so Workington might have to travel back late, but that has been the case for years with Keighley fans travelling up to Cumbria. Money can't be as short as we are led to believe at Cougar Park if we can arrange a fixture such as this.
The same goes for the Swinton game. 3 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon! Surely a mistake? At least I hope so. Otherwise another game with potential for the lowest gate on record and is 'commercial suicide'!
One final comment (which I have taken-up on numerous occasions over the years):
How can any Club, let alone the Cougars exist with the following pattern of fixtures:
1 home game in March
2 home games in April (separated by 3 weeks) followed by another home game the next week
2 home games in May (separated by 4 weeks ) followed by another home game the next week
1 home game in June
3 home games in July (two separated by 6 days and then not another for the next 3 weeks)
NO HOME GAMES IN AUGUST!!!!!!!!
The final (scheduled) home game on September 1st
A total of 10 home games. Brilliant! (I think not). No-wonder support is dwindling. It must be time for a radical re-think of the Championship and merging the two Divisions must surely be on the agenda.
