Have to say I was surprised reading Boxweirs post I have always thought the cougar fans to be quite vocal.

Re: The Match day EXPERIENCE : Sun May 29, 2011 7:02 pm
The atmosphere was as flat as a f@rt today.

The dreadful performance of the players didn't help

It's pretty disconcerting when there is a group of us, (Me, Andrew Aspinall, Noddy, Mick W, Obeone, Pompey Ste and Harry-Al-Hill with a few others) who start more than our fair share of the chanting yet nobody else can be bothered to join in.

I wonder sometimes if some folk do turn up just to mope around and look miserable.

You wouldn't expect the noise at Cougar Park to "Peter out" :?:

You've hit the nail on the head 'Stealth Comic' but what comes first? The team actually performing or a chant to get them to perform? I and several Cougar fans around me did join in but were outnumbered by the 'Haven supporters nearby. Then tell me why we should pay our hard-earned money when certain players looked as though they'd just got out of bed?

As I've already said in my 'post', I feel for JD when certain players didn't appear to be interested in their game let alone the game against Whitehaven! Which team was the most 'hungry' for the points today? Certainly not the Cougars, well some of them; whilst others like Shick played out of their skins (despite his arm injury). A brilliant one-man effort for his try and what a 'chip'!

Likewise the first half effort from Benjafield showed what is possible - that is unless you are consigned to the bench! As usual, some nice touches and 110% effort from JD, but why, oh why didn't he change the game-plan and get the ball out wide?

Buster was good (whilst he was playing) as were Cartledge and Purseglove.

Ovearall 'Haven mastered the conditions better than us. Why no 40-20 attempts in the second half and no high balls in the first half (unlike Haven's in the second)?

Despite the performance of certain players, we should have won, but what reaction do you expect from the crowd when balls are dropped regularly by certain (not all) players and critical tackles are missed by others and we continue to plod down the middle of the field in a 'one man' game?

Tell me why we always appear to run into the area of the pitch where there are most opponents ready to tackle our attacking players instead of getting the ball out wide where our backs can take control?

I don't want to start naming one specific player, who I believe should not have played today, and, I hope, will not be selected for next week's game as I believe that he's living on his past reputation and 'borrowed time'!

For everyone who went to the Rochdale game - they will realise just what we need to do next week as they can and did turn defence into attack as the final scoreline illustrates.

A complete change of tactics and a vast reduction in the error count is required for next Sunday and then the crowd might give the players their full support.

I don't think yesterday's game was one to fully appraise the atmosphere. Due to the performance, the chanting and vocal support suffered as a result. I personally don't see it as "we only sing when we're winning" scenario either as the noise during the Warrington game was good.

It may not work, or be feasable but what about having a pre-recorded Cougar chant over the tannoy. The DJ will obviously be in control of when it's played, but it might just get things going.

This is a simple idea that might just work.

This was tried by Bradford Northern and did not work, and was also frowned upon by the RFL, but that was in the old days, it may be acceptable today..

New chant??

To the tune of 'wave your flag'

When you are wiser
You'll be a cougar
Cos we are the winners
We're gonna wave our badge (whilst holding our shirt badge)

Warning, chant only advisable whilst on course for a certain win, alcohol advisable, wording must not be changed for abusive humour
