New coach : Tue Aug 10, 2021 3:22 pm
Who do you reckon

Brian McDermott?
Danny Ward?
Andy Last?
An Aussie?

Whoever gets the role I’d like to see a more disciplined professional culture to the club.

Last would be interim if he was in with a shout, rather than WP
But him already signed at Cas probably rules him out

Other than one year from McNally have we ever had any success with Aussie coaches, Smith and Webster being the last two.

Although it's tempting for smaller clubs like ours I believe the Aussie in question must have played/coached in the UK previously. They do ok at big clubs where money is no problem but at smaller clubs, I honestly think they need to have some basic understanding of the English game and English players.

JD is an obvious but sadly unavailable example

Completely agree.

Getting the 'Aussie coach' is akin to signing a 'Big lad'.

Needs to be the right one. Plenty of bad coaches have Aussie accents.
We clearly can't afford an existing NRL coach or probably even the assistant, but an up and comer with something to prove from the route that JD took might be ok.

I'd still go with proven recent SL coach though.

A bit left field but Craig Lingard is doing well at Batley and was unlucky at Keighley where he drove the bus, washed the kits and everything else with a budget of 50p. Plus he worked alongside JK at Batley.

Re: New coach : Tue Aug 10, 2021 3:59 pm
Well, I think this appointment is probably one of the most important in the clubs history, especially with incoming changes in structure.

First and foremost, I hope the board can bring someone in on a consultancy basis to help recruit the new head coach. Carter and Minards might be bloody good at running a business, but I don`t think they are best placed making the decisions on rugby related matters. I`m sure if we are looking overseas JD will be more than happy to do that job for us with his strong links with the club, he also has Wayne at his dispense to pull on for guidance, if we have these contacts we should definitely be using them to make the decision and provide guidance. It may not always turn out a success, but having these sort of people involved will give us the best chance of making the right appointment for the club.

I am sure a few names will crop up that we know little about along the day, the likes of Craig Lingard is well regarded in the game and known for getting the best out of small budget and comes with good wraps from the like of Kear.

I tend to agree that we need someone outside of the current regime, someone that can come in with fresh ideas, build a better culture at the club but who knows, our new coach could be right under our noses and could be the right man for the job.

Ultimately, I think the club need a strong minded coach, who can instill discipline back into the players and coaching. Just depends whether or not players buy into it. It would appear that they didn't 6 years ago.

I do feel that whoever comes in should be able to change around the backroom staff, given the opportunity. These guys supposedly,do so much work behind the scenes and on the training field.

Out of the ones initially mentioned, I would say McDermott, but it's whether or not he can be affordable.

Shaun Wayne is sat twiddling his thumbs now that the World Cup has been postponed.I have suggested on here before that if he was crowd funded for the first year he would be self financing after that. I don't think he is the man to resist a challenge and would certainly put the self belief back into the players. Our existing squad is far better than recent results have suggested, they just need pointing in the right direction.

I would love Wane at the club, I think he would be the perfect fit for us for where we are at right now, he said he wanted a challenge! Sadly, I don`t think he will come.

Apparently Carters phone has been ringing off the hook this afternoon, so plenty of interest.
