Not really, the club had no legal obligation to fulfil, it was just an "Understanding" over a verbal conversation so IMO the club have morally done a good deed in honouring that, don`t quite get the "so they should" comment. Imagine having a discussion with your boss about a promotion at work, then getting sacked because you can`t do your job properly, would you expect them to pay you the new wage for the foreseeable based on an understanding from a conversation you had? Chris and Michael are obviously very good friends, this sounds to me like they have come to an agreement re a compensation package more than anything.
I think everyone is agreed a new deal should never have been a discussion, we have been saying it for the last 2 years at least.
