Having watched the HKR games and to some extent the CAS game over the last couple of days ,I’d say in terms of players strength/quality we aren’t a country mile off the likes of HKR and not a million miles off Cas but we just can’t cut the mustard on the field . Do we and the coach bemoan our players quality to cover our own shortfalls in getting these players up to a standard that HKR and others seem to be able to do .I seriously think looking at particularly the game last night we have as fan been sold short on the field in terms of don’t expect too much as they aren’t very good in the first place or words to that effect . What I’d like to see is a coach who isn’t scared of dropping even our big names if not performing and putting youth in when required and maybe just maybe we will see a team that can play to a standard that has the regular and stay away fans something that will unite the club going forwards . I always said and stand by it that these players we have have so much more to come but it takes a special person to get them there ,here’s hoping we find the right person this time .

When you see how we played a couple of season ago, and even last season for a spell you know the quality is there, it just seems sometimes that the will to do better isn't there! CC has paid the price for not getting it out of the players, but I've said elsewhere that some of the players need to take a look at themselves and start playing for the club and the fans. They may even enjoy it!
We're not going to challenge for the grand final, but the team is better than what's been dished up this year. We've been very close in a number of games but our complete lack of cutting edge has let us down. Chester covered up his own failings by bemoaning the lack quality in his ranks (poor workman and all that). I don't think any other coach would say something so demoralising about the team they have built. Yes they may say the team played poorly and were not at the races, but to outright imply the players are not good enough is a cop out. Make them better, that is the coaches role.
Anyway onto the future.

Pretty must agree with the first two posts. We do have some decent players but they do not perform at the levels required both frequently enough and long enough in matches. That is down to the coach. Full stop.

The key to coaching any team is realising what you have got, play to the strengths of your team and getting the best out of them. Then when say bill or fafita get injured not expecting players who come in to be like for like. We’ve got pace in the backs but it’s very rare we create the space for, bill, tj, rocky, max and when did Lynn last run into a hole, use players effectively. Lastly we might not be the most talented team but we can be the fittest and work the hardest of any other teams.

Working hard used to be the Trinity trade mark, even when we had teams of almost zero talent.
Somewhere over the last two seasons our players and not just our coach forgot that and we started to believe our own hype.
Newsflash lads, even Saints would be near useless if they didn’t train and get fit with utter dedication. Being good isn’t something you can turn on and off with a switch, it takes constant effort to maintain.
Best example is Fifita and his pies make tries statement. It was funny when he made it because we knew it was a joke and he was clearly working hard and was fit in his own way. Then at some point I reckon he sort of believed it and although injury played a part I still reckon he got lazy and now I’m not sure he’ll ever get it back. I know he allegedly has a rib issue, if it’s so bad why play him in no win games, he should have been rested til fit. I wouldn’t mind but the difference he’s made when playing has been minimal most of the time.
The new coach must no longer allow that to happen. Before any player no matter how gifted and important must be reasonably fit before being considered for selection.

Think with Cas and H K R it's more down to coaching players to play fast rugby . Coaches who know the meaning of a strong spine Who ad to the squad were they see a weakness or bring in a player that strengthen the team .(Think in the next few years if Smith is still at H K R they will be challenging for honers )This is something we have not been able to do ,down to a coach been to blinked to get the basic right
Standard need to be set before the club can achieve them Its been one big relaxed atmosphere within the club with very little expected from the players or the coach. The club show ver little ambition and that rubs off on all staff and players. I never asked for Chesters head but you have to say a coach with that kind of record can feel more than fortunate to retain his position and even be considered for an extention Would that situation have been allowed to develop over the last 2 or 3 seasons at any other club. I have got shot down a number of times for suggesting the club badly run, lacks direction and 68 lacks any kind of expectation. Unless the clubs willing to show a total change of direction, LIVE WITH IT. WE OR SHOULD I SAY THE CLUBS HAD A FEW SEASONS NOW TO IMPLEMENT IMPROVEMENTS LITTLE BY LITTLE.

The sad part of all that is despite Fifita not being the player he was if you look at the stats he has still been our most effective forward by some distance. Most metres, most tackle busts, most offloads and only 11 tackles behind our leading tackler which is Westerman. It's a pretty damming indictment of the rest of our pack to be honest.
