Club issue a thank you : Fri Mar 13, 2009 6:05 pm
Vikings' Chief Executive Officer Alex Bonney has issued a 'thank you' on behalf of the Club following a fantastic night at the Stobart Stadium Halton.

"On the pitch John Stankevitch's team put in a great performance running in 12 tries and keeping their line intact whilst off it there was a tremendous buzz about the place.

"The East Stand looked and sounded great with some wonderful fancy dress costumes and the Co-operative Travel store in Widnes had a difficult job picking a winner for the trip to Disneyland Paris.

"The Karalius Suite had over a 100 guests in it including some top business executives who had a tremendous night's entertainment and enjoyed the atmosphere of a rugby league match.

"In total we had over 5,000 fans at the game and for our opening Co-operative Championship fixture this was a great response to the various initiatives we undertook and we hope to reap the benefits of this throughout the season. Even the programmes sold out so thanks to everyone who bought a copy of the Viking Storm.

"Obviously this is only the start of a long season but if we enjoy similar nights then it will be a very successful year."

Hate to be negative but those black seats in the north stand do the stadium no favours, especially for a night game at this time of year. The colour scheme is a bit of a mish mash with blacks, whites, blues, greens and reds.

This is history. This is history. Right here. Right now. This is history.

I thought it was Widnes?
All games are winnable, whats hard to understand about that.

Wakefield turn over a big club every season and i see no reason why Widnes can't do the same.
Well I must say, I do quite a good impression of Ray French myself, that bin lid's was terrible:

"NOW THEN.........HE'S AWAAY!"

"OOOOOOOOOOOOOH!"

[ON GOAL KICKS] "IT'S THERE!"

Ah French lessons, speaking French in a Widnesian accent is a must at school. I saved my best French for my oral exam (no jokes please) with my bestest French accent, if I'd done the same in the classroom I would have got abused so I feel for the lad.

I'd like to thank the club for all the work they did to put the show on.

Widnes aren't really my team but I love going along to the Halton and thoroughly enjoyed the experience on Thursday.

All those small elements contributing to the match day experience really did add up to a great night and a great atmosphere with a genuine feeling of a community club doing great things.

I'd also like to say that the girl who sang at the beginning probably had the best voice I've heard in a long time -normally you get cat stranglers for pre-match, there was one a Warrington recently that was genuinely awful- but she had real talent.
