Hull FC scored the first league golden point today.

Have we ever scored one in a knock-out game? I remember Warrington putting us out of the cup with one, and obviously the one that relegated us.

How confident will you be after 80 minutes next time our score is tied? Who would you try to get in position for a drop goal?

I’ll expect us to be shafted by the coin, the ref or a freak gust of wind, but reckon Craig Hall might be our best chance.

Put a load of players around the play of the ball to make the markers’ path to the kicker difficult, as well.

If you play the first half with the benefit of the wind, the opposition get the benefit 2nd half and then you get the benefit again in golden point. In the highly unlikely event of 2nd period of golden point the advantage of the wind changes again.

If you find yoursellves playing into a strong wind during golden point and also lose the toss, the opposition will get first use of the football with the elements in their back and you will probably lose without touching the ball as happened to Rovers in the MPG. There's not a lot you can do about it.

Hull attacked the same way in golden point as the did second half. I’m pretty sure that whoever wins the toss has the option to receive the ball or defend it, a bit like deferring when you’ve won the toss in NFL. Then the other team decides which way they want to play towards. Might be wrong though

Yes, that's how it works.

Long version....

1. If the scores are level at the completion of 80 minutes of regular time, the Referee will stop the game. The process of restarting the game in Golden Point is to be as efficient and as quick as possible to maintain the excitement at the end of normal time. Coaches will not be permitted to enter the field of play.

2. The Match Commissioner will then immediately enter the field with a coin and join the Referee with the two captains at the centre of the half way line. A toss of coin will then take place, with the home team tossing the coin and the away team calling the choice. The captain winning the toss shall decide to either kick-off or choose which end his team shall defend. The losing captain shall take the other of the alternatives.

3. The game will restart with a kick-off. At any time where a point is scored the game will end immediately.

I believe the NRL don't allow a drop goal from the very first set, but I can't find confirmation anywhere.

Maybe these rules came in with the introduction of golden point for regular season games?

Because somehow in the MPG Salford had a strong wind in their favour and first use of the football after Rovers kicked off to them.

Rovers lost without touching the ball and without missing a tackle.

I'm still a bit confused, if the team winning the toss selects the end to defend, does the losing captain have the choice of whether to kick off, or to allow his opponents to kick off?

The regular start of a game is much clearer...

The team which loses the toss for choice of ends kicks off to start the first half of the game and their opponents kick off to start the second half.

Smashing result against Leeds last night wasn’t it? Totally blitzed them in that first half.
