| Now the dust has settled somewhat on yesterday's latest defeat i have read with interest some posts on here where people are rapidly losing interest in salford and have had enough suffering to last a lifetime. I have only had 15 years of this "self harming" that is being a red and can sympathise with the afore mentioned supporters, but I think one of the problems lies with the new expectation level we all have this year. Seasons gone by we expected little, we beg stole and borrowed players with little investment and with that defeat I think was easier to accept. This year it's different, we were days from going bust then all of a sudden this 11th hour hero came along and not only saved our club he invested heavily into the squad and the back room staff and galvanised the club. And therein for me lies the problem for me, we expect to be top eight, we expected a great cup run with what the doc has invested - expectation levels that I believe we possibly might have set too high. I think what we are rapidly finding out here is that throwing a lots of cash at older players isn't the answer and for now we all need to lower our expectations - myself included

| What were the good doctors expectations? I think i remember him saying top 4, 6th at minimum. Thats a major factor in all this disappointment.

| From Marwaan koukash :
Quote
I'd be delighted with the top four and disappointed if we're not in the top six,"
"When you are in the top four, you have an outstanding chance to compete for a trophy.
"It would be a wonderful achievement if we could do that. I'm not aware of any British sports team to finish last one season and to win the trophy the following season. That would make the players absolute legends."'"
I just get the impression that he wants that headline grabber of turning a club from wooden spooners to Champions more than the idea of simply winning it. Either way it was a ridiculous expectation.
I made a pre season comment of "which teams out of Leeds Wigan Saints Huddersfield, Wire (I was confident back then) and Catalan (what do i know?) would you finish above in order to get in the top four....?? I think you will have a job on to get in the 8 now....
The players must be unsettled knowing they are aiming to get into the top 8 while knowing behind them koukash is making demands like wanting to win the grand final.

| I think a lot of the hype is from Koukash and the media and thats not helped to be honest.
It doesn't help when Phil Clarke says we are going to win the league, all the other supporters jump on the bang wagon then when we don't click.
I for one are just happy we are still in business, and yes dissapointed with a few performances but we are in a lot better place with the team now than ever and its great to have people at salford saying yes to top 8 and not just avoid relegation.
The next couple of seasons are going to be interesting and believe our time will come just not as quickly as some thought it would.

My thoughts to a tee.
It's important to stay grounded.

| After the match on Saturday, I must admit I lost the plot and almost did a Wirecutter-esque rant on here.
However, once my hangover had dissipated on Sunday it occurred to me that we almost didn't have a rugby team to moan about less than 2 years ago.
I guess part of the fun of being a Salford fan is that we can appreciate the highs as we've seen enough lows in our history to last a lifetime.

this .
To my recollection we are now on the 6th half back partnership so far this season.
although it feels like ' an eternity ' Harris only took over at the beginning of April .
we gave NSW lothario Matt Parish six months.

call for Harris to go at this stage are bizzare.
With Smith - Fages - Walton Johnson - McPherson-Dixon still on the sidelines.
still half the season to go .

I was exactly the same mate especially after a s*it load of ale! I think emotions tend to get the better of folk straight after the game so I tend to avoid posting for those reasons. Going back to the point normally I would just think oh well another inept reds performance ney mind, but this year I'm getting increasingly wound up that a team who on paper look mint are constantly under performing. It would be interesting to see how people rate the players, I think very few have hit the giddy heights we thought they would.

| Out of all the games we've lost this season how many were we predicted to win on paper?
IMHO there's only been Widnes and Hull KR where I thought we'd get something and came up short.
All the other games were down as losers:
St Helens (h)
Warrington (h)
Hull FC (a)
Huddersfield (h)
Leeds (a)
Catalans (a)
I think people have bought into the hype far far to much!
Yes, our squad is better then last years but is it better then the squads listed above? It's an emphatic no!
The signs are there that we can be competitive but we are our own worst enemies at the mo! To many individual errors, penalties conceded and brain farts when in possession.
We play Wigan next then Saints, there's another 2 losses.
Bradford after that is a massive game!
We need to be realistic people!!

| I for one to an extent was swept along with the pre season hype but never really believed we were going to win anything and a top eight finish was a more realistic target and with the players we’ve signed this was and I think still is possible, we have some very good young talent in Johnson, Sau, Lasi, Fages etc and with addition of the new players next year I think exciting times await our team!! We’ve just got to remember where we were 18 months ago!! The Doc is still committed to bringing success as he’s proven with the latest signings and more on the way but we must be patient, keep the faith and keep supporting the team
