Last weeks SL Show and Cack-chat : Mon Jun 17, 2013 9:03 am  

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere (not been keeping up on boards lately) but did anyone see these two shows?

Ian Millward was on the SL Show and said that London are a special case that should be given a higher spending cap (also said that our Aussie signings weren't doing it for us and mentioned Sargi was going to Wigan).

As for that iriot Stevo on Cack-chat (why can I not stop myself watching this rubbish?) he said that the London public have made it quite clear that they don't want a SL team in London. No Stevo, they don't want to watch a losing team week after week for years on blimmin end!.

So much for Stevo being one of our biggest supporters.

did he finish the sentence with "it's as simple as that"? I think Stevo is a good bloke but he doesnt half talk some cack (good alternative title for the show by the way).

Didn't see them but its nice to see that
(1) Millward has agreed with me in that this is the number one fundamental problem we have here in London. (We also need someone to pay it of course) Without this we can never be competitive.

Which leads us to (2)
because without us being competitive we will also just keep on being hammered every week indefinately and people will not pay to watch us as SSWG says - nothing to do with Londoners not wanting RL Stevo doesnt know what he's talking about.

I remember in the Centenary season (1995) we had no dispensation and got hammered in the first few weeks. Barry Maranta said we needed player dispensation and we got it (Peter Gill etc) it is a shame that we are still need to argue it 18 years on.

If good marketing is performed then the fans will come. Given the amount of hard work going on to improve youth development throughout the South, the Bronco's attendances should be rising equally exponentially. The fact that they are decreasing simply suggests the marketing is abysmal.

Not only that but the youth often play at the same time as the LB making attendance impossible for SL games.

Getting to a Broncos game when your kids are in a youth set up often puts a spanner in the works when you are best part of 2 hours away.. I'm sure there are more that would like to watch SL live, it would be even better to think you were going to watch a team that had a chance of winning. God help me, Broncos and All Golds.

What better marketing can you get than a successful product? we seem to be lacking that. Only the die hards will stick with it.

What makes you think that a winning team will solve all your problems regarding attendances ? Thats just like stating how fickle your fan base is. There are other teams in SL who take the same hammerings as London - I cannot see how the two are connected.
You have had a successful team in the past - why use results as an excuse for a decline in attendances ? Have the general public local to The Stoop been canvassed ? Would they attend more games if they could watch a winning team ?

i Completely agree with Millwards suggestion that London should have a higher cap. Simply to reflect the cost of living. I searched rightmove for houses to rent within 10 miles of Roehampton. The cheapest was 2k per month. As you can get similar property in pretty much any northern town for less than half of that it wouldn't be unfair to allow London an extra 20k per player to cover cost of living.

It's a reasonable suggestion but it misses the point:-

London do not have any money and have very rarely been able to pay the full salary cap anyway. You could raise their salary cap to one million pounds a week and it wouldn't make any difference because they do not have one million pounds per week.
