New Essex team takes to the field on Saturday May 24 : Wed May 21, 2014 9:03 pm  

To all RL fans living in Essex, East London or beyond, and could be looking for some local rugby league action. Look no further than Brentwood! On Saturday the Brentwood Eels' (Formerly the Brentwood Elvers) newly-formed Open-Age squad will be taking the field in an East Rugby League - Division 1 fixture against the North Herts Knights. The match will take place on on Saturday, 24 May at 2.30 at: King George’s Playing Fields, Ingrave Road, Brentwood Essex, CM13 2AQ visit www.brentwoodrl.co.uk for more information.

Good luck with it all, I need to get myself back playing once my knee is better. Little far out for me though.

Do you know anything about a team in Romford? Vaguely recall reading/hearing about one a month or so ago.

With regards to the team in Romford, I can tell you that, for the moment, the Romford people have teamed up with Brentwood as we were all concerned that there may not be a big enough player pool in the area to support two teams.

I don't know where you live Richie but we do attract players from Romford RUFC, including our Chairman's son. Therefore, if you can get to Romford, you can get to Brentwood. It's not that far!

Good luck on Saturday. I presume you are playing at Brentwood RU from the address.

It is only a short walk from where I live, but unfortunately I am flying out of the country Friday night. I will make sure I get along to fixtures later in the season though.

For those who don't know North Herts Knights is the second team to the North Herts Crusaders RLFC. North Herts Crusaders are only in their third year (formed Feb 2012) having been the East Premier Champions 2012, East Premier Champions 2013 & East Cup Winners 2013. They moved from Letchworth RUFC to Hitchin RUFC this season and have added a second senior squad (the Knights) having over 70 registered senior players & 2 new additional youth teams making 5 teams in total (the North Herts Crusaders take on the Southend Spartans on the same day) so if any are planning to get behind the new Essex team please try to support the clubs and rugby league in general and together watch the sport grow in the south. EDIT: FWIW, Colin Baker is the Crusaders head coach having previously been a performance coach at QuinsRL and London Broncos.

Thanks to everyone for you good wishes! The final score was 74-24 to Brentwood! Not bad for a team that didn't come together until 6 weeks ago! Hmm!
