Its a pre-season friendly for goodness sake. Skolars give their team an early run out against a Wigan XIII. Pretty much every Premiership football team has friendlies against lower division opposition which do not feature most if any of the first team. And generally fans make a judgement as to whether its worth the effort. Lots don't bother, some just can't miss it.
It is a name Skolars are playing against which probably works on the broader promotional side, particularly corporately. Its a Skolars hosted event and up to them who they decide to play.
I will be attending. Can make a judgement about what sort of squad Skolars look like having this year, see if there are any potential first teamers coming through at Wigan we should look out for. It is also a great opportunity to meet up with a range of people who I won't have seen since the end of last season, others who no longer go to season games but do attend this one as its in the City. Its a chance to talk about rugby league generally.
