Another worry about Chase is his attitude - that would certanly need to change at Wigan and i just don't think he is worth that risk.

I'd much prefer to see Wellens continue at fullback, especially when we play them!

IMHO Soward is overrated. He's what 28 now? 2/3 seasons max for us and then it puts it right back in this position. What about Powell/Russell? Are they any good? Surely continuity instead of a 3 year change is better?

Either promote Powell to HB or put Sam back there with Russell at FB. Someone who watches the academy will be able to answer that better than me.

Soward is a no from me, as are Gaskell and Chase.

We need to fill that 2-3 year gap, I think. Powell is a good prospect but he's only 19 (good chance in the next few games to see just how well he does against SL opposition, though), and Hampshire is an even better one, but he's only 17.

Edit: Correction, Powell's just turned 20, but the same applies.

Strange post, you'd take a gamble on young players who admittedly you haven't seen play, rather than a proven stand off, simply because he's 28 and would only come for 3 years? Who's to say Sam won't be off to the NRL in 2 years (or whenever he can chat to them?)

Continuity isn't something we should bank on, teams change every single year and we need to adapt with that

Wigan need a halfback to cover us for around 2-3 seasons and play alongside Smith. After that period we'll hopefully have at least one top class halfback who'll be an out and out first team player. We have 3 lads we're pinning our hopes on now in Powell and then Hampshire and Williams a couple of years back. All 3 of those have talent and could be very good players but as we've seen with Joe Mellor things can go wrong along the way (in his case bad injuries) so you can never be certain things will work out.

Soward would seem to fit the bill perfectly but I just can't see it.

Soward dropped to reserve grade, it's to do with the current halves combination beating The Sharks and Melbourne whilst Jamie has suffered with bask spasms.
